The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported two new cases of robbery against Japanese nationals in Metro Manila. The robberies occurred near major shopping hubs or hotels, and were committed by suspects aboard motorcycles (a modus operandi colloquially known as "riding in tandem") for faster transport.

Details of the incidents are as follows:

Incident #1
On Thursday, April 30th, at approximately 3:15 PM, three Japanese nationals were walking along the sidewalk beside the Greenhills Shopping Mall in San Juan City (near the corner of Ortigas Ave. and Wilson Str.) when they were suddenly surrounded by five perpetrators. One of the victims had what appeared to be a handgun pointed at him, and at the same time, grabbed his bag, which he was instructed to hand over. After the victim handed over the bag, the five perpetrators boarded three motorcycles and fled.

On Saturday, May 2nd, at approximately 9:20 PM, four Japanese nationals were walking on a sidewalk in the Tambo district of ParaƱaque (Jose W. Diokno Blvd. South, near the Kingsford Hotel) when a motorcycle carrying two people approached them from the front. The perpetrator on the back seat dismounted in front of the Japanese nationals and pointed what appeared to be a handgun at them, demanding that they hand over their bags and other belongings. After three of the four Japanese nationals handed over their bags and other belongings to the perpetrator, the perpetrator fled on the motorcycle.
