Representative Romualdez was replaced by his nominee, Isabela 6th District Representative Faustino “Bojie” Dy III, a close ally belonging to the ruling Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (Federal Party of the Philippines). This makes Representative Romualdez the second speaker in Philippine history to resign, after Sergio Osmeña stepped down from the then-Philippine Assembly amid criticisms from fellow Nacionalista Party members in 1921.
