BSP Expected to Raise Policy Rate to 5.25 Percent Amidst Persistent Inflationary Risks and Peso Depreciation

The peso's record low of PHP 63.09 to the dollar and 7.2% September inflation are expected to prompt the BSP to raise its policy rate by 25 bps to 5.25%. Analysts note further depreciation toward PHP 64–65 could trigger a 50 bps hike to curb risks from rising food costs and Super El Niño.
