Kidnapping-Related Incidents – March 2026

PSA Intelligence recorded five (5) kidnapping-related incidents involving five (5) victims in March 2026. One incident during the period was perpetrated by kidnap-for-ransom (KFR) suspects and involved or demanded ransom payments worth PHP 50 million (USD 839,433), while the remaining incidents were either child abductions or personal dispute-related.

Of the five (5) kidnap victims reported during the period, two were foreign victims of Chinese and Malaysian nationalities. PSA Intelligence did not record any kidnapping incidents targeting a Western national this month. Based on the recorded incidents, one incident occurred in the City of Manila, while the other incidents took place in the provinces of Bohol, Cavite, Cebu, and Sultan Kudarat.

Notable incidents for March 2026 both involved victims of Chinese ethnicity. One of the incidents involved the abduction of a Chinese businessman for ransom by armed suspects in Bacoor City, Cavite. As of writing, the victim’s whereabouts remain unknown and the suspects remain at large.

Another incident involved a Chinese-Malaysian victim who went missing and was later presumed abducted in Sultan Kudarat. The victim’s remains were later discovered in Maguindanao del Sur. Available reports suggest that the victim traveled to Mindanao under the pretext of a business opportunity – a common modus operandi employed by KFR suspects in the Philippines. There are currently no indications that the incident was perpetrated by suspects affiliated with Islamist terror groups in the region, though PSA Intelligence analysts note that fluid links between criminal and terrorist elements in that area have been documented.

Conducting due diligence into potential business partners would go a long way in mitigating the risk of fraudulent transactions devolving into kidnapping incidents, especially when any measure of travel is involved.

Analysts did not record any successful rescue operations by law enforcement in March 2026. One kidnapping incident resulted in the demise of the victim.
