PSA Intelligence recorded 11 New People’s Army (NPA) violent incidents in March 2026. Of these, nine were armed clashes, while the remaining incidents consisted of one arson attack and one assassination. The figure represents a decrease from the 14 violent incidents recorded in the previous month. Notably, more than half of these incidents occurred in the Visayas region.
PSA Intelligence continues to assess that NPA-related arson incidents are becoming increasingly rare, reflecting the rebel group’s continued decline in operational capacity and territorial influence over the past several years. Several factors have contributed to this decline, including intensified government counterinsurgency efforts, the weakening of NPA leadership, and diminishing support from local communities.
This March also saw the celebration of the 57th anniversary of the NPA. In previous years, this period was often marked by an increase in NPA-related violent activities in the days or weeks leading up to the anniversary. However, recent trends suggest a different pattern, with rebel activities fluctuating at relatively low levels due to the NPA’s continued deterioration of operational capability.
