Kidnapping-Related Incidents – February 2026
In February 2026, PSA Intelligence recorded seven (7) kidnapping incidents.
PSA Intelligence recorded seven (7) kidnapping-related incidents involving seven (7) victims in February 2026. Five incidents during the period were perpetrated by kidnap-for-ransom (KFR) suspects and involved or demanded ransom payments worth PHP 24.5 million (USD 402,729.04).
Of the seven (7) kidnap victims reported during the period, three (3) were foreign victims of Chinese and Indian nationalities. PSA Intelligence did not record any kidnapping incidents targeting a Western national this month. Based on the recorded incidents, four incidents occurred in Metro Manila (Muntinlupa, Manila, Mandaluyong, and Quezon cities), while the other incidents took place in the provinces of Pangasinan and Marinduque.
One of the incidents recorded in February 2026 involved a Taiwanese suspect and other accomplices abducting a Chinese national under the pretext of a meeting in Muntinlupa City. This is a common modus operandi employed by KFR suspects in the Philippines and sometimes involves ethnic Chinese suspects luring Chinese victims from abroad for an investment opportunity or for a business transaction. Conducting due diligence into potential business partners would go a long way in mitigating the risk of fraudulent transactions, especially when any measure of travel is involved.
Meanwhile, one incident involved Filipino KFR suspects abducting a Filipino businessman while he was visiting his businesses in Mandaluyong City. Reports suggested that the suspects had monitored the victim’s routine prior to the incident. Clients are advised to modify routines, including travel routes, whenever possible to mitigate the risk of being monitored or tailed by potential threat actors.
Analysts recorded three successful rescue operations all in response to KFR incidents in February 2026. The victims were held captive for less than a day to four days prior to their rescue.
