Communist Insurgency and Terrorism Report – December 2024
In December 2024, PSA Intelligence recorded 20 Communist Insurgency-related violent incidents.
PSA recorded 20 Communist-related violent incidents in December 2024, most of which were in the form of armed clashes between NPA rebels and government forces. Analysts note that the increase in NPA-related violent incidents during the period may be attributed to the government’s successive security operations, particularly in the provinces in Visayas.
Analysts also note that no significant rebel activities were recorded during the period, which coincided with two significant dates: the death anniversary of Communist insurgent leader Joma Sison on December 16 and the 56th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) on December 26. These dates, which also fall during the holiday season, are typically associated with increased rebel activities such as armed extortion. Local sources reported that most rebel units remain pressed for food and supplies, which may be attributed to successive military operations against the NPA in the country.
