PSA recorded 17 Communist-related violent incidents in November 2024, most of which were in the form of armed clashes between NPA rebels and government forces. Analysts note that the increase in NPA-related violent incidents during the period may be attributed to the government’s successive security operations, particularly in provinces of the Visayas Region.
Aside from extorting cash and supplies to sustain their needs, analysts also note that it is typical for NPA rebels to attempt to carry out extortion-related activities in the weeks leading to December. This period covers the anniversary of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) on December 26, which also coincides with the holiday season.
