Communist Insurgency and Terrorism Report – October 2024
In October 2024, PSA Intelligence recorded 11 Communist Insurgency-related violent incidents.
There were 11 Communist insurgency violent incidents in October 2024. The figure is four incidents less than the number of violent attacks reported in the previous month.
For the period, analysts note that Communist-related violent attacks were not concentrated in one region alone but were carried out in different areas in the country.
Out of the 11 violent incidents recorded in October, the majority of the incidents were recorded in Visayas, with seven incidents. Two incidents occurred in Luzon (all in Bicol), while two other incidents took place in Mindanao (one in Caraga and one in BARMM).
In other significant non-violent developments, three ranking NPA leaders were arrested in Quezon City and Makati City during the period. PSA analysts believe that the arrests in the metropolitan area are not concerning since these are likely the result of intelligence efforts aimed at locating NPA leaders who occasionally use urban centers to lay low, rather than indicating a shift towards of rebel operations towards urban areas.
Nonetheless, authorities believe that these arrests are expected to disrupt and weaken the political, armed, and legal fronts of the local Communist insurgency.
